Celtic in Classy Gesture to English League Two Club
As they prepare to face St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership this evening, Celtic have made a classy gesture towards a Football club in English League Two.
Indeed, AFC Wimbledon have made headlines over the past week for the state of their home field.
The club’s Plough Lane pitch was wrecked a few days ago amidst heavy flooding and the emergence of a sizeable sinkhole.
Wimbledon were due to host English Premier League outfit Newcastle United at their home ground on Tuesday night, but the match had to be postponed, and the venue was forced to be changed. Due to the Plough Lane pitch’s poor state, the third-round Carabao Cup tie will now take place next Tuesday at St. James’ Park.
Wimbledon are still aiming to rejuvenate their pitch, though, and a fundraiser organised by a supporter could help them do so.
Graham Stacey, a fan of the club, set up a crowdfunding page with the initial goal of raising £50,000. Amidst several kind-hearted donations from numerous clubs and people, however, that figure has been surpassed and sits at over £115,000.
Per RecordSport, Celtic, along with four other Scottish clubs, including Aberdeen, St. Mirren, Forfar, and Dunfermline, generously donated to the cause.
Wimbledon will hope the money they make is enough to get them back to playing regularly at their home ground.
