Celtic Defender Set for Debut in Falkirk Clash
Brendan Rodgers has made an incredible number of changes this afternoon against Falkirk, with eight changes including one player set for their debut against John McGlynn’s side.
In a sign that the summer transfer window was successful in adding greater squad depth, bringing eight players into a cup quarter-final after a Champions League win indicates that Celtic, under Rodgers, are most definitely moving in the right direction.
Celtic left-back Alex Valle makes his debut this afternoon, having joined on a season-long loan from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The Spanish full-back starred against Real Madrid in pre-season for the Catalan Giants, playing out of position on the right hand side.
He has now been given a chance in his favoured position against Falkirk, presenting a great opportunity to see how close he is to comPeting with Greg Taylor.
Given that Taylor has desperately needed comPetition, Valle may demonstrate why he earned such praise last season while on loan at Levante in the Segunda División in Spain.
Valle appears to be more of a full-back who likes to overlap, rather than invert as Taylor tends to do.
Over the course of his managerial career, Rodgers has favoured overlapping full-backs, so it will be interesting to see Valle’s movement on and off the ball this afternoon.
