Cats Rescued from Dover Hoarding House Now Seeking New Homes

It's been almost three weeks since we learned of the horrific conditions in Dover, Dutchess County, where more than 90 cats and kittens were discovered, and rescued.

In that short time, several local agencies have come together to provide medical attention, comfort and care to the rescued felines, and believe it or not, some of the cats and kittens are ready for their 'fur-ever' homes.

Rescued Dover Cats/Kittens Search For Fur-Ever Homes

18 cats rescued from a Dutchess County home will be ready for adoption this week, this according to HVARS, Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary.

Staff from HVARS were first responders to the Dover home earlier this month, where 93 cats and kittens were rescued.

Our staff has spent the last 2 weeks vetting, caring for and getting to know the cats. We are 2 weeks into a long road for some but the great news is the first 18 will be ready for adoption this week.

HVARS shared that the cats available this week range in age from kittens to about 7 years old, and have different personality types.

There are extremely sweet cats in this group and there are many who are scared, unsure of touch but not "feral" and of course as we expected there are some feral ones as well, one that would rather live their life untouched, outside.

All of the current cats and kittens that are ready for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, are up to date on all vaccinations and have also been tested for felv/fiv.
