Carlo Ancelotti hits out at Gerard Pique's claim about Real Madrid's 2022 Champions League win
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has fired back at Barcelona legend Gerard Pique's disparaging comments about their 2022 Champions League triumph.
Los Blancos were crowned as kings of Europe for a record 14th time at the end of the 2021/22 season, seeing off Liverpool 1-0 in the final. Their route to the showpiece event at the Stade de France saw them earn remarkable comeback wins against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 and Manchester City in the semi-finals, while they also fought off a fightback from holders Chelsea in the quarter-finals.
In an interview with RAC1 earlier this week, Pique - who retired from football in 2022 - claimed that Real Madrid's latest European glory would not be remembered, especially when compared to Barcelona's.

"Madrid at the moment are more of the same, they don't inspire much but they get results and in February they will be alive in all comPetitions and in the Champions League we will see," Pique began when talking about the current version of Real Madrid.
"I always say it though, our way of doing things and the demands we place on ourselves, when we win, we are remembered forever, when they win, it is just another one. The last one, which was a miracle because they were inferior in each round, and it won't be remembered."
Ancelotti was later asked by Cadena COPE about Pique's comments, and the Italian did not take kindly to the ex-defender's assessment.
"Pique lives in his world, which is not that of Real Madrid. I can assure you that there is not a single Real Madrid fan who can forget the 14th [European Cup win]. It will be a Champions League that will be remembered for life," Ancelotti said.
