Callum McGregor thinks the post-match atmosphere within Celtic Park was ‘flat’ last night because the Hoops failed to find a late winner.

The hosts went behind in the first half through a calamitous Cameron Carter-Vickers own goal. It was no more than they deserved after making a poor start to the Game.

Celtic were in dire need of a second-half response, and it came through Daizen Maeda, who, following a sharp turn of direction, struck the ball into the far corner via the post with utmost venom.

Celtic went on to try and find a winner after making it 1-1 but their efforts were of no avail. The Bhoys’ failure to score late on frustrated skipper McGregor.

Post-match, the midfielder was asked if he felt his team could’ve won after drawing level: “Yes,” he promptly replied (TNT Sports via The Celtic Way).

“I think we could feel the stadium a little bit flat. We came off at the end of the Game and everybody knew that we were the team who were the aggressor and tried to win the Game. We are a little bit disappointed that we didn’t capitalise and win the Game. It is a steady point and it keeps us moving in the right direction.”

Victory last night would have seen the Hoops more or less secure a last-16 play-off spot.

They have three more opportunities to do so, though, with matches against Dinamo Zagreb, Young Boys, and Aston Villa on the horizon.

Next up, however, it’s back to the bread and butter of the Scottish Premiership, as Ross County visit Glasgow’s east end on Saturday afternoon.

Kick-off is at three o’clock as the champions aim to go five points ahead of Aberdeen and 14 clear of Rangers before they each play on Sunday.
