Brendan Rodgers Brilliantly Sidesteps “Genius” Press-conference Question
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers remained modest in his press conference yesterday when he was asked about John McGlynn’s description of him as a ‘genius’.
The Hoops boss was speaking at Lennoxtown ahead of his side’s Scottish League Cup quarter-final clash with Falkirk tomorrow.
The Bhoys welcome the Bairns to Parkhead as they aim to make it to Hampden for the first time this season.
They will be aiming to keep up with their impeccable form so far this campaign which has seen them emerge victorious from every Game they’ve played.
The latest was in the Champions League as the Celts ran out emphatic 5-1 winners against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.
Liam Scales opened the scoring with a bullet header 17 minutes in before Kyogo Furuhashi doubled the lead just after half-time. Arne Engels then got in on the act before Daizen Maeda cancelled out Kevin Wimmer’s consolation.
Adam Idah added some gloss to the scoreline late on as fans experienced a historic European night at Parkhead.
Rodgers got everything right midweek, and ahead of his side’s return to action on Sunday, Falkirk manager John McGlynn has labelled him a ‘genius’.
A journalist put this description to him in his pre-match press conference, although the Irishman remained modest.
“Don’t use that word [genius],” Rodgers joked (Sky Sports).
“When that gets said, that’s when everyone chases you even more, so I don’t need that!”
Although Rodgers remained reserved when praised, few Celtic fans would disagree with McGlynn’s description of him, especially after Wednesday night’s match.
The Hoops boss divided opinion when he initially returned to Glasgow, but he now has everyone back on board, united, and ready to push on.
