ASUU Says Pantami’s Professorship Is Illegal
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denounced professorship tied to Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as illegal.
The Minister, who was caught in an audiotape sympathizing with extremist sects was promoted to the rank of Professor of Cybersecurity at the Governing Council of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) at its 186th meeting held on Friday, August 20, 2021.
According to ASUU during a meeting in Lagos, said the promotion given to Pantami did not follow the due process.
This declaration was made at National Executive Council (NEC) in a press conference presided over by ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke on Monday.
what ASUU said about Pantami?
The union said,
- “You cannot be a minister and a lecturer in a university. It is an encouragement of illegality.
- “Pantami has to quit as a minister and be tried for doing double jobs within the same federal system.
- He is not qualified.
- Pantami should not be treated as a professor.”
In addition, the union said they have sanctioned the ASUU members behind Isa Pantami promotion.
- “We have resolved to sanction ASUU members involved in his promotion and the VC of FUTO.”
