The Cleveland Guardians will host the Houston Astros for Game two of their weekend series this Saturday from Progressive Field. Cleveland took Game one in a 14-inning contest, 10-9.

Astros Betting Preview

Houston enters at 36-28 after losing to Cleveland. The Astros nearly got back into the win column last night, and they’ll now dropped four straight Games. The Houston offense is scoring 4.66 runs per Game, while batting .247, with a .316 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.25 ERA, with a 1.22 WHIP. Top slugger Yordan Alvarez (17 HR, 55 RBI) is set to miss this series after picking up an injury against Toronto. Kyle Tucker plated two runs in the Game one slugfest, and he’s posting splits of .272/8/38. Jose Abreu stepped up and produced three runs last night to bring his season total to 26 RBI. Alex Bergman has a hit in nine of the last ten Games, and he’s got a solid line of .248/9/38.

J.P. France (1-1, 3.44 ERA, 26 Ks) will take the hill for Houston. The rookie right hander pitched well in a divisional matchup with the Angels, going a season-long seven innings, while holding them to just one run. The outing marked France’s second quality start of the season, and it’s the fourth time he’s allowed one run or less through seven appearances. France struck out a season-high eight batters in his last road spot against Milwaukee over 5.2 innings pitched.

Guardians Betting Preview

Cleveland moved to 30-33 after taking down Houston. The Guardians have ripped off three straight wins with ten runs in consecutive Games, and they’ll look for more success Saturday. The Cleveland offense is scoring 3.85 runs per Game, while batting .229, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP. Jose Ramirez went crazy on Thursday with three homers against Boston, then he followed it up by reaching base six times in the Game one shootout. Ramirez is now up to 10 home runs and 37 RBI for the season. Josh Bell has produced a run in six of the last eight Games, and he’s now up to 29 RBI. Josh Naylor has multiple hits in four consecutive contests, and he leads the Guardians in BA (.277) and RBI (45).

Triston McKenzie (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 10 Ks) will get the call for Cleveland. The fourth-year pitcher looked great in his season debut in Minnesota on Sunday, tossing ten strikeouts over five shutout innings. McKenzie picked up right where he left off after a breakout 2022 season, and he’ll look to contain the defending World Series champs this weekend.

Houston vs Cleveland Trends

Houston is 31-31 against the spread this season, with a 35-24-2 O/U record. Cleveland is 29-32 ATS this year, with a 21-37-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

We have a few things tilting in Cleveland’s favor here, starting with the hot production they're getting at the plate. Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor have been forces at the plate over the past two weeks, and they could wind up giving a rookie J.P. France trouble here. Triston McKenzie shouldn’t be overlooked in this home spot against the defending World Series champs either, as he returned at a high level in his first start of the season on Sunday. Meanwhile, Houston is unfamiliarly skidding, and Yordon Alvarez’ absence against these power Cleveland bats feels even more troubling. Let’s back the Guardians for a fourth straight win, and double down with the Over as possible insurance for Houston waking up.
