If you go online and say that you're planning to harm a public figure or attack a public location, there's a decent chance that someone will take notice and contact the authorities. So, in a bid to vent their violent fantasies while avoiding the police knocking on their door, some creative souls came up with a solution - just say "in Minecraft" at the end of the sentence.

"I want to beat you up, in Minecraft," or, "I'm going to riot at the capitol until the government overturns the election results... in Minecraft," See how it works? Well, actually, it doesn't work. In what might be the first case of its kind, a 4chan user has been arrested after he tried to pull the Minecraft defence, threatening to kill a Florida Sheriff.

"Just shoot [Sheriff Mike] Chitwood in the head and he stops being a problem," reads a 4chan comment, made by a 38-year-old New Jersey resident, Richard Golden (thanks, New Daytona Beach News Journal).

"Shooting Chitwood in the head solves an immediate problem permanently. Just shoot Chitwood in the head and murder him. In Minecraft."

Golden's statement, which he admitted to making following his arrest, was made after Chitwood started campaigning against antisemitism.

Chitwood has since commented on the arrest, describing Golden as a "marginalized member of society" who spent much of his time in "extremist chat rooms".

"Here is this clown sitting in his bedroom who is indoctrinated by this bullshit and thinks the best way to solve the problem is to put a bullet in my head," says Chitwood. He also says that Golden is being held in Volusia County Branch Jail, having been charged with making written threats to kill or injure. As a second-class felony, the maximum penalty is 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Police body camera footage of his arrest has been made public, showing that neither Golden nor his mother was surprised by his arrest. Golden quickly deduces that the arrest is in connection with "what he said" online. It seems that Golden is yet to plead guilty or not guilty.
